Alison Gorman

Alison Cecile Gorman (maiden Hanson; November 24, 1976) is an independent designer who creates modern user experiences in the digital product industry.

In 2020, she co-founded Minima Scientific PBC, a scientific research and technology company, along with her husband, Dr. Brian Gorman, PhD.

Early Life

Alison Cecile Hanson was born on November 24, 1976 in Houston, TX. She is the youngest of four children to Wayne Bertil Hanson, an Electrical Engineer, and Mary Veronica Crawford, a teacher and homemaker. Alison has one sister and two brothers.

Alison graduated  as co-valedictorian from Westbury High School in 1995. As an active high school athlete, she lettered in 4 varsity sports - Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track.

Alison went on to play Divison II soccer at the University of Missouri-Rolla and earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Controls Engineering. 

Career

Alison's first professional job was an Engineering internship at General Motors in Kansas City, MO between her Sophomore and Junior year of college where she was introduced to the control systems for automated manufacturing.

Upon graduation, she joined Rockwell Automation, an established global consultant in the manufacturing automation industry where she specialized in the design and programming of custom human machine interfaces, software solutions, and data collection/analysis/reporting systems. 

In 2007, she left Rockwell Automation to focus on starting and raising her family while exploring part time work. She did freelance work with Rockwell Automation and joined a small automation consultant, Tegron, as a part time Project Engineer until 2012 before the birth of her second child.

Gorman has been an active member in her community as a youth soccer coach, scout leader, and citizen science volunteer in Jeffco Open Space's Citizen Science Nest Watch program. She has shared her passion for science, engineering, and the arts contributing to and leading programs in Golden PreK-12 schools.

Gorman began coaching youth soccer in 2011 and has recently coached at the Competitve and Academy levels. 

She began forging a new career path in 2016 and studied modern software engineering at Colorado School of Mines as well as app development and experience design. In 2020, she co-founded Minima Scientific PBC, a scientific research and technology company, along with her husband, Dr. Brian Gorman, PhD.

Personal Life

Alison met Brian Gorman in 1996 while both were student athletes at the University of Missouri-Rolla. After graduation, they moved to Dallas, TX together and were married in 2005. In 2009, they moved to Golden, Colorado where Brian joined the faculty at Colorado School of Mines. They have two children together, Shannon(16) and Sean(10). The family resides together in Golden, Colorado.
